Lela was sitting in the children's area at the library, a stack of fifth to eighth grade level books in front of her, along with a frappuccino leaving a ring of condensation on the short, pebbled table. Her legs folded under the small red chair, Lela had originally come to the library to start working on a reading list for this year, as evidenced by the books she had pulled out, but she had quickly become distracted by Frindle, which she was now halfway through. For the twentieth time. But, hey, it was a fun book.

She'd eventually get around to skimming the books she had pulled. It's not like Lela had anything else planned for the day.

Pankaj was pulling some landscaping books to get some ideas on how to tie up his project. It was practically finished, it was sunny outside-- he couldn't be happier.

He soon became bored and started to wander, when he caught a glimpse of someone in the children's section-- what? He was only passing by.

And no, he wasn't imagining things, that was Lela. His smile widened exponentially as he approached until he was just in front of her table. "Hey."

Lela almost jumped when she heard Pankaj's voice, and she definitely flushed when she looked up at him from the low seat, over the top of the book. No, she wasn't sitting there, enjoying a book for nine year olds.

"Afternoon."

"What are you reading?" he asked, studying the pile of books she had left.

"I'm just doing some research, putting together possible books to read for the school year," Lela said smoothly, noting the page number she was on and then setting Frindle down.

He tilted his head. "Isn't that book a little young for your class?"

Lela looked away, flushing a little at being caught. "--Yes, but. I like it. It's a fun book."

"Ohh. What's it about?" As uuusual, no judgment to be found here.

She took a sip from her drink before responding. "A boy who decides to start calling pens 'frindles,' thus driving most of the authority figures in the book up the wall."
